Who we are
Book Design Made Simple (“us”, “we”, or “our”) operates https://www.BookDesignMadeSimple.com (the “Site”). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information we receive from users of the Site.
We use your Personal Information for three reasons:
- To send you our bi-monthly email (if you subscribe to our blog);
- To reply to your comment on a blog post (if you make one);
- To provide, monitor, and improve the Site.
By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
If you comment on one of our blog posts, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. This information is displayed on our Site in the Comments section at the bottom of the blog post. It is available for all visitors to see. We only use this information to reply to your comment.
After you comment on a blog post, your personal data is also saved in browser cookies, so you don’t have to resubmit your information the next time you comment. This makes commenting more convenient for you.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Email sign up form
If you subscribe to our email list, we will ask you for your first name and email address (“Personal Information”). We use this Personal Information to contact you with our bi-monthly newsletters, and the very occasional discount offer for our book.
There’s an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email we send you, and you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking that link. We use MailChimp to send our emails, and it collects some data to let us know whether you open our emails or click on any of the links in them. The MailChimp privacy policy is available here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.
Cookies
Cookies are files with a small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer’s hard drive. Like many sites, we use cookies to collect information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so that you don’t have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to track user interactions. When you browse our Site, we collect the data that your browser sends whenever you visit our Site (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics. Google Analytics collects, monitors and analyzes the Log Data so we can better understand how our Site is used, and thereby create a better user experience for our visitors. The Google Analytics privacy policy is available here: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Who we share your data with
We never share any of your Personal Information with anyone else. Period. And we only request the minimum amount of Personal Information necessary to communicate with you.
The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you subscribe to our email list, your name and email address are retained indefinitely. This is so we can continue to communicate our bi-monthly newsletters to you.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
If you have subscribed to our email list, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email. Your name and email address will then be deleted from our email list.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
