Fiona Raven and Glenna Collett are book designers with a combined 64 years of experience. After collaborating on designing books for self-publishing authors, they joined forces to write Book Design Made Simple, a 500-page comprehensive guide to designing and typesetting books for non-designers and designers alike. Fiona has designed hundreds of books for self-publishers, small presses, and first-time authors since 1995, from places as far-flung as Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Tonga. Glenna has designed more than 100 textbooks for large publishers, dozens of self-published books for individual authors, and she also teaches workshops on self-publishing.

Fiona is a self-taught designer, having learned her craft from reading and examining countless books on typography, design, layout, and software. She recently teamed up with book designer Glenna Collett to write Book Design Made Simple, a 500-page guide to designing and typesetting a book for non-designers and designers alike. Every now and then Fiona still gets a hankering to create a book the old-fashioned way—by printing on handmade papers, illustrating with wood cuts or watercolors, and creating a binding by hand. Glenna Collett was a book designer in the Boston area for more than forty years. She created her first book by hand using metal type, a letterpress, silkscreen illustrations, and a sewn binding. Since then, she has designed more than 100 textbooks for large publishers and dozens of self-published books for individual authors. Glenna also teaches self-publishing workshops, and now that she is a self-published author herself, she brings a deeper understanding of the issues her students may face.
